Build plates

Which build plate should you choose for PLA?

Think about the underside you want, how you remove the part and how much care the surface needs.

Compare each plate with the setup it needs

Different coatings can require different temperatures or surface treatments. Forcing all of them to use an unsuitable identical recipe would tell you little about which is easiest to live with.

A practical comparison should record first-layer adhesion, lifted corners, underside texture and removal after cooling. It should also say how the plate was cleaned and whether an adhesive or release layer was used.

A plate we have used in the published test

The Copymaster print used Bambu Textured PEI. Its supported block and bar were close to their design dimensions. That result describes this plate, material and setup; it does not rank it above plates that were not in the test.

Before replacing a surface that used to work

Check the coating’s cleaning instructions and the first-layer setup. A cleaning problem is worth ruling out before buying another plate. Our cleaning guide sets out the checks without prescribing the same solvent for every coating.
